JAMB score and subject combination explained

Updated 26 October 2026

Every UTME candidate writes four subjects. The total score is out of 400, and each subject contributes up to 100. Your subject combination must match your chosen course, so check it before you register.

How the score works

The UTME total is the sum of your four subject scores, with a maximum of 400. Universities then combine UTME performance with other requirements such as O'Level results and, where applicable, Post-UTME screening.

Choosing your subjects

Raising your score

Work on your weakest subject first because it usually has the biggest room for improvement. Timed practice and reviewing wrong answers is the fastest way to improve.
